A teenage boy and his angry mother are planning to fight his school’s rule that declared he must shave off his moustache.

Kauri Huriwai-Flavell, 15, was told he would be booted from Rotorua Lakes School, on New Zealand’s North Island, if he didn’t get rid of his facial hair.

The teen, who has a bleached mullet hairstyle, had reluctantly used the razor to remove the moustache.

However, he hopes to have a hairy upper lip again soon.

His mother Paerangi Haimona wants the school to remove its rule and plans to take her argument to the board of trustees.

‘These boys, they refuse to shave their mos and they just want to be at school really to learn,’ she told Seven Sharp.

‘They’re only hanging in school by a thread and if it means not shaving and then being at school well I’m all for them and I will fight for them.’

The school website states students must be clean shaven.

However, principal John Ward said they would ‘happy to review the rule, but only with widespread consultation with the community.

‘Part of our educational responsibilities are to develop a sense of community agreeing to common values and aspirations.’
