A 16-year-old boy who was left critically ill after suffering a suspected allergic reaction from a takeaway has died.

The teenager was rushed to hospital on Saturday night after visiting Uno Pizza, in Prescot, Merseyside.

Paramedics were called to the takeaway around midnight after he fell ill and collapsed.

The teenager had remained in critical condition in hospital but Merseyside Police said on Wednesday that he’d passed away.

They said in a statement: ‘We can confirm that 16-year-old boy taken to hospital after falling ill in Prescot has passed away today, Wednesday, 11 March.

‘A joint Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council investigation remains ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

The teenager had remained in critical condition in hospital but Merseyside Police said on Wednesday that he’d passed away. Uno Pizza pictured, left and right 

‘Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.’

Detectives had sealed off the takeaway after launching the investigation.

The teenager has been named locally as ‘Nick’ and it’s thought that teachers from his school informed pupils about the tragic incident this week.

Tributes have been paid to him social media, with locals describing him as ‘lovely kid’.

Others called his death as ‘tragic’ and ‘awful’, and another wrote: ‘He was such a lovely kid. So sad his young life has been cut short… Rip Nick xoxo.’

Another wrote: ‘Poor lad only went for a bite to eat, family need answers here, deepest sympathy to all his family.’
