Boy, 17, is charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking a 83-year-old man in a shocking random attack

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the attempted murder after he allegedly launched a horrific attack on an 83-year-old man.

The teenager allegedly assaulted the elderly man and two other people at random after he drove to a house at 10:15pm on Friday.

The three victims were attacked in their car in Tamborine Close in Palmerston, Canberra’s north.

The elderly man has suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.

The two other victims have also been taken to hospital.

Police arrived at the house and engaged with the boy who was restrained by a group of officers after they deployed capsicum spray and took the boy to hospital.

The boy has been charged this afternoon with attempted murder, threats to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and obstruction of a Territory official.   

The police are requesting that anyone who saw the boy in the area and the surrounding streets, or may have CCTV footage, prior to 10:15pm on Friday night to contact police immediately.
