Boy, 4, dies after ‘schizophrenic brother, 20, throws him off NYC apartment building roof’

A four-year-old boy fell to his death after his older brother threw him off the roof of an apartment building in New York.

The youngster, who has been named as Shimon Smith, was found unconscious and unresponsive in a courtyard outside the apartment block in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The boy died at the scene after the emergency services were called to the building in Brooklyn at around 3.30am.

Police found the little boy, Shimron Smith, unconscious and unresponsive in the courtyard outside his home in Brooklyn having been thrown from the rooftop 

The boy’s 20-year-old brother who has a history of schizophrenia, has been arrested.

The older brother has since confessed to throwing Shimon off the building’s roof  in Brooklyn’s East Midwood neighborhood according to CBS New York.

Marc Liverman, the building’s superintendent said that he woke up to find dozens of police officers outside the block. 

He added: ‘It’s very sad, sad, sad.’

Police and paramedics raced to the scene after someone called 911 to report that the boy had been injured in a fall. 

Shimon’s brother remained in custody but no charges have been laid.

The investigation continues.
