Dramatic images from the scene show the boy being carried away in a stretcher as he clings to a teddy bear.

He was flown to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital before being transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children where he remains with non-life threatening injures.

Emergency services told The West Australian the rescue operation was difficult because the boy was trapped in an awkward position.

It’s believed the boy’s father jumped in to try and save him but was unsuccessful.

The eight-year-old was freed after nearly four hours.

He was met with applause from family and friends who were anxiously watching on.
