Boy escapes to window grille from fire in home in China

Dramatic footage has emerged online showing a little boy climbing through a window grille to escape from a fire at his home in south China.

The boy was saved by firefighters, but sustained burns over 13 per cent of his body. His two-year-old sister was killed by the fire.

Footage posted by Pear Video shows the moment a boy walked dangerously on an anti-theft window grille at the balcony of a blazing home on November 29.

Firefighters put off the fire and saved the five-year-old boy at midnight in Huaihua, Hunan Province.

They also found a body of a two-year-old girl in the flat. 

Zhou Yuyi, the boy’s uncle, told Pear that the two children had been taken care by their grandmother as the parents worked in another city.

It’s said that the grandmother forgot to switch off the heater before going to sleep and the heater set the apartment on fire.

The fire had alerted residents living at upper floors and reported the incident to local fire department. 

The five-year-old was sent to a hospital and found to have sustain a 13 per cent burn on his body.

Dr Zhang Chunxi from The Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Medical School said: ‘This is considered as a second-degree burn to the boy.’

Zhou Yuyi said his nephew was calling for his younger sister while being treated by the doctors.
