A teenager has been found dead inside a car that caught fire in a single vehicle crash on Christmas Eve.

The gold Nissan Tiida struck a tree at the intersection of Marine Terrace and Point Street in Geraldton, Western Australia, just before 11am on Saturday.

WA police confirmed they responded to a call about a car alight at 11am in the main street of the Geraldton suburb of West End.

A teenager has been found dead inside a car that caught fire following a single vehicle crash on Christmas eve

Once emergency services extinguished the blaze, police retrieved a body from inside the car, The West Australian reported.

The deceased was identified as a 17 year old boy, whom police confirmed died from his injuries at the scene.

Detectives also confirmed no other people were involved in the accident.

‘Major Crash investigators are conducting an examination of the scene and are appealing for any witnesses,’ police said. 

Tributes to the unnamed teenager were posted to social media from Christmas eve.

‘My genuine and sincere heartfelt apologies to the family. He was an amazing son, brother, nephew, and sportsman,’ one read.

Another woman claimed her husband tried to get to the young driver inside the car. 

‘My husband was there and now is a complete mess he is not coping at all. As he just wanted to help and get the person out. My condolences to the family so tragic,’ she posted.

Investigators are looking into the crash and witnesses were urged to call police
