A reckless driver was dragged from the wreckage of his car after crashing into a tree while racing his friend.

Dramatic footage captured the moment the unconscious boy racer was pulled from destroyed motor, at the scene of the collision in Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

CCTV shows a man getting out of the other vehicle and pulling the collapsed motorist about 20 metres along the road before stuffing him into the second car.

Neighbours described hearing the rescuer saying to his pal: ‘You need to get out of the car before the feds get here.’

The injured man is then driven away from the scene.

Police are now investigating the incident which took place at around 6.45am on Saturday, September 30.

The footage shows how the driver of the front car loses control on a bend and his Toyota Yaris smashes into a tree.

The following Mazda narrowly avoids the Yaris as it bounces off the trunk and stops, just out of view.

A few seconds later the driver of the Mazda is then seen running over before dragging the stricken motorist from his seat.

Other footage shows how he struggles to stuff his injured friend into the rear seat before driving off.

Moments later he appeared to return to the scene, minus the injured man, before trying and failing to get the Yaris to start.

Witnesses described seeing him jumping on the bonnet of the car in anger.

One eye-witness, who declined to be named, said: ‘It was horrific. I heard a massive bang, jumped out of bed and looked out of the window. I saw him dragging this guy out of the car and putting him into his own vehicle.

‘The guy being dragged looked unconscious to me. We could hear some moaning and groaning. He looked in a bad way.

‘At first his friend couldn’t get him into the car. He made a few attempts to close the door but his leg was in the way. Then he sped off.

‘A few minutes later he came back in the same vehicle with a different driver. They had dumped the injured man somewhere and come back.

‘He tried to start the crashed car but couldn’t get it started. He’s then got angry and started jumping up and down on the bonnet.’

Another resident said: ‘I heard a massive bang, looked out and saw this guy saying ”you need to get out of the car before the feds get here”.

‘But the guy didn’t look like he was conscious or weight-bearing.

‘He wasn’t able to carry his own weight. His shoe came off and this old man, bless him, picked it up as he was passing and tried to give it back.

‘He thought he was doing them a favour. He kept saying ”your shoe!” and the guy was saying ”it doesn’t matter”. In the end he just threw it into the car.

‘It looked to me like they had been racing and he’s lost control and hit the tree. I don’t understand why they had to get away from the police. I don’t think the casualty was dead but he looked in a bad way.’
