Boyfriend faces life in jail for stabbing girlfriend

A jealous boyfriend is facing life in jail for murdering his girlfriend in front of her toddler daughter – after discovering she kissed another man.

Dylan Harries, 22, repeatedly stabbed young mum Katrina Evemy, 19, after secretly texting a message from her phone to the other man.

A court heard he lashed out with a knife – and left her 22-month-old daughter covered in her mother’s blood.

Katrina spent six days on a life support machine after the ‘blood bath’ attack at her home but later died in hospital.

Harries carried out the attack on his ‘on-off girlfriend’ after learning she kissed another man.

Prosecutor Patrick Harrington QC said: ‘Harries arrived at the home of his some time girlfriend Katrina, he went into the house and inflicted appalling injuries upon her by stabbing her repeatedly.

‘The attack was done in the presence of the victim’s young daughter who herself became covered in her mother’s blood.

‘Not only did he inflict appalling knife wounds, he also bit Miss Evemy on the arm.’

PC Katy Davies was the first officer to arrive at Katrina Evemy’s home after the stabbing – and said there was ‘blood everywhere’.

Mr Harrington said: ‘She got into the house and said that there was blood everywhere.

‘She found Miss Evemy there with her face covered in blood and her hair matted in blood.

‘She described it like the scene of a blood bath.’

Swansea Crown Court heard that on the day of the attack Harries had found out that day that Katrina had kissed another man.

Mr Harrington said: ‘Miss Evemy had been in a relationship with Harries for some time but it was very much an on-off relationship.

‘Harries is by nature possessive and jealous.

‘He had that day learned that Miss Evemy had kissed another man.’

The court heard Katrina kissed Robert Morton on a night out after she and Harries argued – and the pair exchanged phone numbers.

But several days later Harries allegedly stole Katrina’s phone and started texting Mr Morton pretending to be her.

Mr Harrington said the text from Mr Morton read: ‘You and your fella had an argument, he ended it and stormed off. Your fella got the wrong end of the stick. We danced a little then we kissed a couple of times then swapped numbers.’

Mr Harrington said: ‘Harries then sent a message back from her phone saying: ‘This is her boyfriend and she denied it.’

‘Mr Morton replied ‘This problem is between you and her’.’

Mr Harrington said that shortly after reading the message, Harries walked two miles from his house to Katrina’s armed with a knife and carried out the bloody attack.

Mr Harrington said DNA evidence proved Harries was responsible for the bite on Katrina’s arm and there were distinctive marks on the wound from his brace.

But Harries denied the attack at her home in Llanelli, South Wales, saying he found her wounded when he arrived at the property on April 13.

Harries, of Felinfoel, Llanelli, denied murder but was convicted by a jury at Swansea Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on Monday.
