Boyfriend proposes to his girlfriend underwater

A 28-year-old romantic has found the perfect way to propose to his girlfriend as they tried scuba diving for the first time.

The heart-melting moment was captured on camera as Jerome Bengon, 28, went scuba diving with his girlfriend Gellimaica at a resort in their home of the Philippines.

Jerome had arranged the sweet gesture with the owner of the resort, a professional diver, who agreed to assist by holding out the laminated sign that read ‘Marry me?’

To give himself plenty of time to prepare for the special moment, Nervous Jerome said that he gave his girlfriend tight fitting diving wear so that it would take her longer to get ready.

The video shows the couple below the ocean’s surface swarmed by teams of exotic fish. Enthralled by the stunning views, Gellimaica is distracted as she feeds the tropical creatures which flock around her, causing her vision to be obscured.

The resort owner then opens out the sign as Jerome gets down on one knee. Overwhelmed with emotion, the couple then clasp each other’s hands, eventually embracing under the water.

Speaking about his girlfriend’s reaction to the proposal Jerome said that Gellimaica wanted to cry but didn’t know how because they were under water.

‘She is God’s gift to me. I prayed every night for a girl that understands me, takes care of me and accepts me for who I am.

The night I met her she told me that she wanted the same. It shows that God really does exist if you just ask him wholeheartedly.

‘I never dreamed that this could be my proposal to her. All I dreamed was to grow old with her’, he said.

The pair are planning to marry in a civil ceremony in August but will seal the deal in a church in 2019.
