Brad Pitt’s grandma Betty Russell dies before seeing him

Brad Pitt’s elderly grandmother Betty Russell has passed away without ever fulfilling her dying wish of seeing her grandson one last time.

The 95-year-old – affectionately known as ‘Meema’ – spent her last years in the sub-standard one-star Rose Manor Nursing Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma, but peacefully passed away on September 14 at a local hospital.

Although she received visits from her sisters who lived nearby and many family and friends in her final days, Brad’s last documented trip to see his grandmother was almost ten years ago.

Back in 2012, Brad’s aunt Mary Ann Lanier said it had already been four years since his last visit.

She lamented: ‘She misses him. He doesn’t write, he doesn’t seem to stay in contact with her.

‘I don’t know, I’m sure he’s busy but I don’t know why he doesn’t stay in contact with at least his grandmother, but she doesn’t hear from him.’

Recalling the visit Mary Ann added: ‘The last time he came to Shawnee was the spring before the twins [Knox and Vivienne] were born [in 2008] it was around the time of his grandmother’s birthday.’

Making matters worse, during the approximately nine years Betty was at the center, its standards slipped to the lowest level.

Medicare.gov – the official U.S. government site for Medicare – gave the 100-bed facility only one star out of a possible five after its last inspection in 2015.

The one-star rating was applied in all three categories: Health inspection, Staffing and Quality Measures, meaning the facility is ‘Much Below Average.’

An investigation into the old people’s home, run by Grace Living Centers, can reveal it still has significant problems.

The damning 23-page report by Medicare in April 2015 detailed a number of incidents where residents of the nursing facility were not properly cared for and basic nursing practices and protocols were not followed.

In some cases doctors had not been notified of patient’s deteriorating conditions, wounds and sores or test results.

In others care home workers had failed to note problems with their patients in their assessments.

Unsmiling staff at the facility wear bright red T-shirts and can regularly be seen congregating at the back of the building, smoking and eating fast food on their breaks.

Brad was mentioned in Betty’s obituary, alongside his estranged wife Angelina – who he split from in September 2016 after 12 years and six children together – as well as his brother Doug and sister, Julie Neal and various other family members.

The obituary said Betty – his father Bill Pitt’s mother – had retired in 1987, and added she was an ‘active member of Grace Bible and then New Beginnings until health prevented her active attendance.’

The tribute added that in lieu of flowers, friends could donate to a local mission ‘because Betty’s main concern was that children were being fed.’
