Brand of gin sold at Dan Murphy’s is pulled from the shelves over fears of ‘microbes’ 

A brand of gin sold at Dan Murphy’s stores around Australia has been recalled due to fears it has been contaminated with ‘microbes’.

The Banks and Burbidge alcohol free gin has been pulled from the shelves due to ‘a potential for microbial contamination’, according to Food Standards Australia New Zealand who announced the recall on Sunday.

‘Food products with potential microbial contamination may cause illness if consumed,’ the recall said. 

The recall applies to the 700ml bottle of the gin which had a best before date of May 11, 2023.

Any customers who may have drank the beverage and are concerned about their health have been urged to seek medical advice.

‘Consumers should not drink this product, and should dispose of it safely. Consumers seeking a full refund should contact the place of purchase for instructions,’ FSANZ said. 

Microbial contamination occurs when food or drink has been contaminated by microorganisms such as mold, toxins, bacteria or viruses.
