Brandeis University on lockdown over armed subject report

  • A lockdown was put in place at Brandeis University around 12am Tuesday
  • School administrators received reports of an armed subject on the campus 
  • Around 1am campus police confirmed an armed robbery took place on campus
  • Authorities aslo said there was no threat of an active shooter on the grounds  

A lockdown was put in place for students at Brandeis University in Massachusetts after reports of an armed robbery on campus. 

‘We have received a report of an armed subject on campus. Take shelter in the nearest room, lock doors and windows, silence your cell phone and remain quiet,’ officials from the university said in a statement around 12am Tuesday.

‘Do not let anyone into the room until area is deemed clear by authorities,’ the statement continued.

About an hour later, campus police confirmed that an armed robbery took place on campus.

Patrolman Dustin Botelho of Brandeis University’s police force confirmed that there was no ‘active shooter’.

He said there were no injuries reported following the incident. 

Authorities do not have anyone in custody.

Botelho said the lockdown remains in place until further notice. 

Brandeis is a private university in Waltham with an enrollment of roughly 6,000 students.
