Brave firefighters have filmed the moment their truck was almost swamped with flames while escaping horrifying bushfires.

The crew captured the video after battling a blaze south of Nowra in New South Wales on Monday night.

Footage posted on social media showed burning embers flying over the road as the flames ravage surrounding bushland.

The firefighters were forced to shield the inside of the truck with safety blankets as the firefront passed through.

Fires around the Nowra area are still burning out of control. 

Residents have been told it’s too late to leave.

Bushfires in the region have claimed two lives since Monday.

Dairy farmer Patrick Salway, 29, and his father Robert, 63, died trying to defend their home from bushfires in Cobargo, south of Moruya.

Mr Salway was expecting a second child with his pregnant wife Renee.

NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed the two men died in Cobargo, to the west of Bermagui on the state’s south coast where the Badja Forest Road fire was burning out of control on Tuesday.

‘A third person is missing with grave concerns for their safety, west of Narooma,’ Ms Berejiklian said.

‘Our message is please follow instructions. We know not only are locals impacted but in the entire south coast regions there are thousands of people who are holidaying or have been travelling.’ 

As of Tuesday night there were four emergency-level fires around the South Coast region.
