  • Lorry driver crashed with his £8,000 cargo on way to market in south Brazil

Bundled into boots and perched on the back seats – these bizarre pictures show the novel way tenacious Brazilian motorists got these pigs to market.

Minutes earlier, a lorry had crashed on its way to a swine selling site in the South American country, tipping out the 120 porkers worth about £8,000 inside.

Dozens were killed in the carnage on June 10. Many were left stranded by the motorway.

But quick-thinking locals stepped in to make sure the remaining pigs got to market on time, bundling the 15-stone porkers into the back of their cars.

One driver decided to plonk a pig in the boot. It can be seen perching in the small compartment with the lid open, pricking its ears up as it sails through traffic.

Jaw-dropping images show the motorists fishing out the swines from the wreckage.

The farmer behind the wheel of the lorry had been making the 1312km trip from Uberlândia to Chapecó in Paraná, south Brazil.

He lost control and ended up careering down an embankment. He suffered minor injuries and was discharged from hospital after 24 hours.
