Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin don’t have a nanny for their son Dakota, nine months

Their engagement was revealed last week, nine months after welcoming son Dakota together.

And Brenda Song spoke out about her and partner Macaulay Culkin’s parenting style.

The 33-year-old actress said that they are ‘very hands-on’ as parents and don’t have a nanny, according to her interview with The Cut.

The actress said: ‘My fiance and I are very hands-on. We don’t have a nanny, but my mom has been here with us since my son was born….’

Adding: ‘When I was working, my mom would bring [my son] to set so I could breastfeed and see him during the day.’

The star went back to work on her Hulu series Dollface 12 weeks after giving birth to film season two.

The former Disney star said that ‘people tell you a lot about labor and pregnancy, but not about the fourth trimester.’

‘To my girlfriends that are pregnant I say, make sure you have help. Because your instinct is to want to do it all and you physically can’t.’

Brenda said she used to always be on set early but coming back after the baby ‘was harder than I thought.’

Explaining: ‘I pride myself on always being first on set. So to be like, “Hey, I need 20 minutes to pump” was difficult.’ 

And while her mom was taking care of her son while she worked, she said ‘the hours away’ from him ‘took a toll on me.’

‘Learning my own boundaries while trying to take care of my son and my family – that was hard. But I had a great support system and I knew my son was taken care of. I just had FOMO.’

Adding that ‘missing those hours with my newborn son, it pains me, but at the end of the day, Mama’s got to put food on the table. You’ve got to make sacrifices. Hopefully he’ll understand.’ 

The lovebirds welcomed son Dakota on April 5, 2021.

Macaulay, 41, and Brenda sparked dating rumors in June 2017 after meeting on the set of the film Changeland; their engagement news was revealed last week after over four years of dating.

They did not announce she was expecting a baby, only revealing her pregnancy post labor.

In a joint statement, the couple said they were ‘overjoyed’ with the arrival.
