Brendan Rodgers ‘on four-man shortlist to replace Antonio Conte’

  • Brendan Rodgers could return to Chelsea after working for their academy
  • Antonio Conte is almost certain to leave this summer after two seasons in charge
  • Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge
  • Italians Maurizio Sarri and Massimiliano Allegri are also candidates on shortlist

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is one of four men on a managerial shortlist to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea, according to The Sunday Express.

Rodgers, who is looking to win back-to-back Trebles with the Hoops, worked under Jose Mourinho as head youth coach of the Chelsea Academy between 2004 and 2006 and then became manager of the reserves team at the club.

Conte is almost certain to leave this summer after two seasons in charge following disappointing results that will likely see the Blues miss out on Champions League football next season.

Conte’s side came back from two goals down at Southampton on Saturday to win 3-2 to avoid a 10th Premier League defeat.

Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona coach currently out of a job, is favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri is another candidate to succeed Conte at Chelsea this summer.

Sarri, 59, has helped Napoli mount a serious challenge to Juventus’s long-standing dominance of Serie A this season, though they currently trail them by four points with seven matches left.

Sarri is reportedly unwilling to make any decision over his future until after Napoli’s trip to Juventus in the likely title decider next weekend.

The other manager on the shortlist is Juve’s Massimiliano Allegri.
