While an engagement ring is a hugely personal item, there is no harm in taking a look at the trends that bridal jewellery buyers are predicting will be the next big thing.
And 2019 is shaping up to be an interesting year on the jewellery front, with new shapes, cuts and colours making their way into the fray.
Speaking to FEMAIL, bridal buyer for Michael Hill Jewellers Emily Vukovac revealed the five styles making waves this year – and the wedding band cuts that are also on the rise.

‘This year, expect to see an array of new styles when it comes to engagement and wedding ring trends – think colour, vintage and ring enhancers,’ Emily told FEMAIL.
Gone are the days of simple solitaires and predictable cushion cut styles and in their place are specialised, tailored items aimed at a more unique bride.
So what can we expect to see?
Emily said that vintage rings are set to be big throughout 2019, as they add ‘a touch of old school glamour and evoke the romance of the past’ (pictured)

A vintage-inspired engagement ring will often feature unique elements found in one-of-a-kind antique rings – such as hand engraving, milgrain or ornate embellishment.
This style has been popular with millennial women in particular, because it’s somewhat different to the traditional engagement ring – while also remaining classic.
Celebrities with this style include Olivia Wilde, Emily Blunt and Pippa Middleton.

While brides of yesteryear might not even have contemplated getting a coloured stone, in 2019 they are bigger than ever.
‘Modern-day brides who want a non-traditional ring are all keen on this style,’ Emily said.
‘It’s also perfect for Instagram, as it adds a pop of colour to your grid.’
The benefits of choosing a coloured stone – whether that’s a ruby, emerald, opal or sapphire – are myriad.
Not only are these stones often cheaper than conventional diamonds, but they are also different to conventional engagement rings – and can be imbued with significance, depending on the stone.

But this year, the style has had an upgrade, with all sorts of different solitaires becoming popular.
Opt for this if you want a traditional ring with your own take on it.
