  • The men were armed with a machete and firearm, as they discharged the gun
  • Both father and son were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

A 10-year-old boy is in hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, after he was caught in a violent Brisbane home invasion.

The boy and his 31-year-old father were inside an Ammons Street residence, in Brown Plains, south of Brisbane, on Boxing Day.

Two men entered the home around 8pm, armed with a machete and a firearm. 

Police believe an altercation occurred resulting in the firearm being discharged, hitting both the boy and his father.

The armed men fled the scene as the injured father and son were taken to hospital.

The boy was taken to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, while his father was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with an abdomen injury. 

Both injuries were confirmed as non-life threatening. 

A police dog was also injured by a dog at the Ammons Street residence, as police attempted to track the offenders.

The police dog was taken to a vet for treatment of a torn leg muscle, while the the dog handler sustained cuts.

Police have declared a crime scene with officers recovering the firearm at the residence.

Anyone who may have seen or who has dashcam footage of two men entering a vehicle in the westbound lanes of Browns Plains Road, in the vicinity of Waller Road at around 8pm on Tuesday, are being encouraged to contact police on 131 444.
