But when the snake moved she realised it was no prank.

When she told her husband Ming Hon, he said he could barely believe it.

‘It’s a Christmas present for everyone,’ he said.

The Brisbane pair said they were completely unfazed by their new friend.

Meanwhile, in Mt Coolum, 100km north of Brisbane, another family found a much more sinister visitor.

The Mt Coolum family found a venomous red-bellied snake slithering through the branches of its Christmas tree.

While snake catcher Stuart McKenzie removed the snake, the family could be heard screaming in the background.

‘There he is oh my God,’ a woman could be heard saying.

‘If you can get him out of our house!’

The snake was safely removed from the family home.
