Brisbane student fends off carjackers at service station

Footage has revealed the horrifying moment a man was set upon by a group of carjackers armed with an iron bar. 

Student Thomas Ellis, 20, was refuelling his car at a service station in Forestdale, in Brisbane’s southern suburbs, about 2pm Tuesday when he was approached by two men and a woman.

The group circled around Mr Ellis before one of then men closed in while brandishing the blunt weapon,7 News reported.

He attempted to snatch the keys from Mr Ellis’ hand, but the Brisbane student resisted while fending him off with his right arm.

Searching for safety, Mr Ellis ran for the service station while the group attempted to corner him outside.    

He evaded his would-be carjackers and made his way inside, forcing the group to search for an alternate mode of transport.

‘He tried to box me in near the door, trap me to get my car keys,’ Mr Ellis told the publication.

He added: ‘It’s rubbish, people work hard for what they’ve got and they just try to take it.’

The group – joined by two more members – approached another service station customer and asked them for a lift to the nearest train station, but they refused, 7 News reported. 

Moments earlier, the group were joyriding in a red car that was allegedly stolen from a home 20kms away in Daisy Hill about 2.30am.  

They travelled onto the wrong side of the road and crashed the car into a ute at approximately 80km/h.   

Police said on Thursday morning no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
