A 34-year-old Brit has been charged with the murder of his Canadian ex-girlfriend and her 22-month-old daughter after their bodies were found in a creek.
Jasmine Lovett, 25, and her daughter Aliyah Sanderson were reported missing on April 16 after not showing up for a family dinner.
Robert Leeming, who previously lived in Wiltshire, was arrested last month and released without charge after questioning and a search of the home he shared with the mother and her daughter in Calgary, Canada.
Police found the bodies at 4am yesterday in Kananaskis 70 miles west of the home and after the horrific discovery, police re-arrested Leeming who is a HGV mechanic, reports the Mirror.
In a statement, police said: ‘At approximately 4am on Monday, May 6, 2019, we located the bodies of a woman and child, believed to be that of Jasmine Lovett and Aliyah Sanderson, in Kananaskis.
‘The investigation led officers to a heavily wooded area near Grizzly Creek located off Highway 40, where the bodies were discovered.
‘Autopsies are expected to begin today. Formal identification of the deceased will be done by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
‘A suspect has been taken into custody and charges are pending.
‘The suspect cannot be named by police until charges are officially laid by the Justice of the Peace.
‘However, police can confirm the suspect is the same man who was taken into custody two weeks ago.’
Police had been searching for the bodies in the Bragg Creek area which is located 40 miles closer to where Leeming said he last saw the pair at his house.
But after making a breakthrough they moved their search near Grizzly Creek where the pair were found.
Leeming claimed he was once romantically involved with Miss Lovett (pictured) following the divorce from his wife last year
Leeming (pictured) had previously been in an intimate relationship with Ms Lovett, who had lived with him for the past seven months
It comes just days after Leeming said that he had nothing to do with the mother and daughter’s disappearance and had gone on another date with another woman when the pair vanished.
He told reporters outside a bar while a forensics team searched his house: ‘They will find nothing because I did nothing wrong.’
Last week the Mirror tracked down Leeming where he denied any involvement in the Jasmine and Aliyah’s disappearance. He said he was on a date with another woman when the pair vanished.
The mother and daughter were lodging with Leeming.
He had previously been in an intimate relationship with Ms Lovett, who had lived with him for the past seven months.
Leeming, who was born on a British Army base in Germany and later lived in Wiltshire, told police he went for a picnic with the pair on April 17.
Ms Lovett’s bank card was used for an online purchase the following day.
