Britain’s strongest man and woman have revealed they are trying for a baby after tying the knot last year.
Paul Smith, 29, and his wife Shannon, 30, from Manchester, who met at the gym back in 2017 and got married in September 2022, joined Josie Gibson and Andi Peters on This Morning to reveal their exciting news.
Shannon, who won the title of World’s Strongest Woman in 2021, explained she won’t be competing in 2023 as they are hoping to become parents.
While Shannon weighs 64 kilos and can deadlift 222 kg, Paul, who holds the title of UK’s Strongest Man, tips the scales at 130kg and can deadlift 380kg.

When asked what the pair have coming up this year, Shannon said: ‘Well I have had quite a busy year. Pretty much for two years solid, I haven’t had a break from competitions.
‘So I am having a bit of an off-season at the minute but we are focusing on trying to try for a baby so I might not be competing.’
To which host Andi Peters replied: ‘The worlds strongest baby, well congratulations.’
Meanwhile Paul said this year he has a few different competitions coming up.

He revealed: ‘This month I have Britain’s Strongest Man, I have the UK’s Strongest Man to defend my title in May…so it will be a busy full season again for me.’
Talking about how they first met, nutritionist Shannon revealed they started talking online.
She said: ‘Well we started talking online. The Strong Man circuit is quite small, so you would tend to know who’s who.
She went onto reveal that Paul went to her gym around 2017 when they initially started talking, however in 2019 they finally started dated.

She said: ‘In 2019, I started going to the gym that he trained at. From there, we started to get to know each other a bit more.
‘We went out for food after training and it ended up turning into a relationship.’
Shannon continued: ‘I think it just works so well with us being in the same sport. We know how much dedication it takes, we understand each others goals and it just suits our lifestyle really well. ‘
Paul popped the question in August, 2021, next to a waterfall in the Yorkshire Dales and the pair wed in Cyprus last year.

The pair both hold a number of national titles alongside being UK and World competition winners.
Paul was crowned England’s Strongest Man four times, and Shannon held the title of England’s Strongest Woman for two years.
Paul also holds the world record for ten repeated lifts of the heaviest dumbbell, known as The Big Daddy.
It weighs 150kgs and each lift is equivalent to hoisting two average men with one arm — although he tips the scales at 130kg (20st 6lb).
