British expat Jordana Grace’s horrifying discovery Queensland park BBQs

British expat’s horrifying discovery about a public Aussie park BBQ near her home: ‘I wish I didn’t know this’

  • Jordana Grace was left grossed out by council barbecues
  • She loves cooking pancakes on the park hot plates

A British woman who likes nothing more than cooking pancakes in the morning on one of Australia’s iconic beachside barbecues has been left horrified by a ‘disgusting truth’.

Jordana Grace was left horrified after sharing a video of her family enjoying breakfast cooked on one of the council barbecues.

‘I can’t believe all the messages saying how people pee on these,’ she said shocked.

The expat previously said chilling with her family by the barbecues epitomised ‘happiness’ for her.

But the discovery had her second guessing her days in the park by a Sunshine Coast beach, despite knowing the council cleans them thoroughly twice a day to ensure they’re safe for locals.

Jordana Grace has been left horrified after people told her these barbecues are often urinated on and should be scrubbed or used with a cover to keep good clean

‘Good thing we cleaned it but still,’ she said.

And people were quick to comment on the ‘gross’ act.

‘Ooft, pancakes directly on the barbecue, can only imagine the flavour,’ one man said.

‘That hotplate is well seasoned with you know what and it doesn’t make them taste better,’ laughed another.

‘When my hubby was a kid he used to wee on them – now he won’t use them,’ one woman revealed.

Some people gave her advice on using the hotplates in the future.

Meet the cleaners behind the park BBQs: ‘We’re doing our best to give you the best experience’

The people who work behind the scenes to make this happen – Sunshine Coast Council’s parks cleaners – take a lot of pride in keeping the areas clean and safe.

Council staff look after more than 300 public barbecues, as well as 353 playgrounds and more than 1100 shelters.

Tony, a council parks cleaner for eight years, said it was satisfying to know residents and visitors enjoy the park facilities.

‘People from around Australia tell us these are some of the best kept facilities they have seen,’ he said.

Fellow cleaner Jason said it was easy to see why the region’s parks were so popular.

‘Being out at the beaches and rivers seeing interesting sights and meeting a lot of interesting people are some of the best parts of the job,’ he said.

However, Tony warned: ‘A lot of people are good with keeping things clean, but it’s also a weekly occurrence to have barbecue shelters a mess and some areas are always trashed on weekends with glass, rubbish and cigarette butts.’

‘Sometimes I cook in one of those foil dishes, or put down some foil first,’ said another.

While others said she had nothing to worry about.

‘The council workers clean the hotplates and toilets twice a day, they are fine,’ one mum said.

Other Australians were gob-smacked by the news too.

‘I have never heard of that, and use them all the time. Gross!’ one woman said.
