British hiker suffers a heart attack and dies on a beach after a three-hour ‘ecological’ trek with other tourists in Colombian national park

A British hiker has died on a Colombian beach after a three-hour trek with other tourists.

He collapsed on Cape San Juan, located inside a protected area of Colombia’s northern Caribbean region called Tayrona National Natural Park.

Local reports said he was from Sutton-in-Ashfield near Nottingham and is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

He was already dead by the the time police and park staff arrived to try to help him.

A police spokesman from Santa Marta, the nearest city, told local media: ‘He was on one of the beaches in Tayrona National Natural Park with two other tourists.

‘He appears to have suffered a heart attack which caused his death.

‘Police went to the scene but unfortunately there was nothing they could do.’

The dead man is said to have just completed an ‘ecological’ walk lasting more than three hours when he collapsed.
