Among those caught up in the chaos was a British-Palestinian girl named Jenna, who lives in Gaza and who described her experience of Israel’s terrifying bombardment in a moving TikTok video.

‘In the morning, in the night there’s lots of bombing,’ said Jenna, who appeared to be aged around four or five.

‘We have to worry about the house shaking. It feels like it [is] slowly, slowly, slowly falling and if we hear some loud noise I get scared and Mummy hug[s] everybody. We are children and it’s not right to do that to children.’

Asked where she lived, Jenna, who spoke with a distinctive English accent, replied: ‘In Gaza.’

A woman’s voice is heard off-camera saying that she and her family had been forced to ‘run and leave’ the previous day.

Asked if she was scared, Jenna replied ‘Yeah’, adding: ‘I really miss my home but I can’t go because of lots of bombing.’

Other Gazans also spoke of their terror. Youmna El Sayed, Al Jazeera’s Gaza Strip correspondent, had been forced to flee to Khan Younis, a city in the south of Gaza. ‘It is terrible. We have no electricity, water or internet.’

About 50,000 to 60,000 British nationals are believed to be in Israel or Gaza, according to government estimates.
