A 31-year-old British tourist has drowned in Spain after he fell off a rented pedalo and was swept out to sea.

The man, who has not been identified, fell from the pedalo off Platja del Regueral beach in Cambrils, 60 miles south of Barcelona, around 5.40pm Sunday.

A witness called emergency services and rescuers were able to pull the man from the water, but attempts to revive him using CPR were unsuccessful.

The witness said the man was clearly struggling in the water before ambulance and police crews arrived.

Five Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) patrol cars and a team from the Local Police were sent to the beach on the Spanish Costa Dorada.

Three ambulances were also sent to the beach.

According to reports, the beach had lifeguards operating during the incident and the displayed flags were green, suggesting the sea was safe.

It is unclear whether the local authorities are investigating the incident.

Last month, a five-year-old Georgian girl died off the La Pineda Beach in the same region when her rubber ring was dragged out to sea.

On 30th April, an 83-year-old man drowned off the coast of Llosa in Cambrils near where the British tourist died.
