British holidaymaker dies after being pulled unconscious from the water at beach on Greek island of Zante

A British man has died after he was pulled unconscious from sea after he was on holiday in Greece.

The 64-year-old tourist was found by other holidaymakers on the Alykanas beach in  Zante.

The incident took place on Friday at around 9:15 am local time (7:15 am BST) with the ambulance and coastguard workers sprinting to the scene.

The man was taken to Zakynthos General Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

According to reports, no lifeguard was present at the beach at the time of the incident.

A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Port Authority of Zakynthos. 

Another incident took place on the Greek Island of Crete last month after a 26-year-old was struck by lightning.

British paddleboarder Scott Seddon was filmed laughing and joking with a close friend as he emerged from the sea – just minutes before he was struck by lightning and killed.
