British UFC star Arnold Allen says he’s only ‘talking upwards’ after being called out by Russian mixed martial artist Movsar Evloev.

Evloev put in a scintillating performance at UFC Vegas 56 on Saturday night, looking comfortable as he slowly picked away at Dan Ige before winning by unanimous decision.

In his post-fight interview, the Russian fighter called out Allen but it seems the No. 7 ranked featherweight has his sights set on someone higher up the division.

Speaking after his victory over Ige, Evloev said: ‘I’m feeling great. I prepared very well and big respect to my opponent. He was dangerous all the time. I think me and my opponent deserve Fight of the Night. That’s my opinion. Next one, I need a big name for a title shot. I’m the next champion.’

‘I know one name, he’s still scared of me. He’s a bulls*** guy, Arnold Allen. I want to beat this guy in his place. Maybe England. I’ll be ready in a couple of weeks. I’d finish him. I promise.’

The Russian moved to 16-0 in his career, and 6-0 in the UFC, after the judges scored his fight with Ige 30-26, 30-27, and 30-27 in favour of Evloev.

The 28-year-old’s mention of ‘maybe England’ suggests he wants to fight Allen on the UFC London card scheduled to take place on the 23rd July.

However, Allen quickly took to Twitter to rebuke Evloev’s call-out and insisted that he wants to fight Chan Sung Jung, better known as the Korean Zombie.

Allen tweeted: ‘We gotta be talking upwards surely’ and included emojis of the South Korean flag and a zombie – clearly indicating his desired next opponent.

Allen is currently seventh in the UFC featherweight rankings, after an impressive TKO victory against the veteran Dan Hooker at the o2 Arena in March, with the Korean Zombie sitting one place ahead in sixth.

This would certainly be Allen’s hardest challenge yet, with Sung Jung looking to bounce back from his defeat to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in April.

Despite an impressive record in both martial arts and the UFC, Evloev is only ranked 13th in the division and so it wouldn’t make much sense for Allen to accept the fight.

His dominant victory over Hooker at the recent UFC London event proved that the Brit has the credentials to fight with the best in the division – as he dismantled the former lightweight within the first round.

The UFC is scheduled to return to London in July with British star’s Tom Aspinall, Darren Till and Paddy Pimblett all booked in to fight on the night.
