  • It comes as 17 British citizens are feared dead or missing in Israel

A terrified British mother was taunted by Hamas terrorists who sent her a picture of her kidnapped mother and brother, as another one of her siblings was being killed, it has been reported.

When the Palestinian militant’s surprise attack began on Saturday, Ayelet Svatitzky tried to call her 79-year-old mother Channah Peri who lives near Haifa in northern Israel.

As Ayelet attempted to speak with her family she could hear terrorists shouting orders before the phoneline went dead.

Just seconds later she was sent a photograph of her scared mother and brother Nadav Popplewell, 51, alongside text messages that simply read ‘Hamas’, The Sun reported.

Soon after the horrific phone call the mother-of-three, whose family is originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, then learnt her other brother, Roi Popplewell, 54, had been killed in his kibbutz near Gaza.

Ayelet Svatitzky, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, has not heard from her mother or brother since they were captured by Hamas terrorists

Last night, Ayelet remained unaware of the fate of her mother and other brother, who is technician.

She told the paper: ‘I can’t describe how worried I am now. My mother needs insulin and I don’t even want to think about how long she will last without it.

‘I am begging Hamas, please just give us proof they are alive.’

The horrifying ordeal comes as 17 British nationals, including children, are feared to be amongst those dead or missing following Hamas’ attack.

Among those Brits known to have died is Nathanel Young, 20, who was serving in the Israeli army when he was killed during Hamas’s attack.

Bernard Cowan, who grew up around Glasgow, also died.

Jack Marlowe, 26, who went to the same London school as Mr Young, is believed to be missing, while photographer Dan Darlington is feared dead.

A post from Mr Darlington’s sister Shelley on social media said he was ‘murdered’ at Nir Oz, a kibbutz in southern Israel. His death has not been officially confirmed.

Mr Marlowe was providing security at the Supernova music festival in the desert near Kibbutz Re’im when the area was invaded by Hamas gunmen.

The bloody conflict, that has already claimed more than 2,300 lives on both sides, erupted on Saturday after terrorist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel.
