Brits start planning for Christmas in AUGUST

  • People in the UK search for Christmas-related topics as early as August
  • Brits search festive topics more than any other country, Google searchs show
  • The UK is followed by Ireland and the US as the other most Christmassy nations 

Christmas comes earlier in the UK as people start searching the term online as prematurely as August, Google analytics show. 

Brits have also searched for the the world Christmas more than any other nationality for past four years running – making us the biggest festive fanatics.     

Surprisingly it even has more Christmas searches than the US which has 11 states bigger than the size of the UK.  

Interest in searching for related topics to the yuletide season is almost two-thirds less in the US than the UK.

The second most Christmas-obsessed nation is Ireland followed by the US, Australia and then Canada.   

Once British interent users started to Google Christmas-related searches the trend rose steeply at the end of October, just before present shopping usually begins. 

This is the fourth year running that the UK has had the strongest search interest for Christmas themed topics – previously Ireland was the most Christmas-obsessed.

The Lincolnshire village of Keelby has a higher proportion of Christmas related searches than any other town in the UK, scoring 100, the Daily Telegraph reported.  

However some towns were feeling more Christmassy than others as Burnham in greater London had the lowest search rate of five.     

The data shows the proportion of Christmas-related searches as a percentage with 100 being the highest possible per cent.   

As well as searching for Christmas topics earlier each year the UK also appears to be doing their Christmas shopping in advance, according to retail experts.

UK consumers are making Christmas purchases, such as lights and trees, earlier due to the cost associated with Christmas according to GlobalData Retail.
