Broncos legend Steve Renouf has blasted Brisbane players who complained about Kevin Walters’ volcanic dressing room spray after their shocking loss on Thursday.

The Broncos were humiliated by the Eels 53-6 just a week after being thumped 60-12 by the Storm – leading to Walters’ epic meltdown.

The dressing-down from the coach was too much for some stars and they are reportedly ‘upset’ with the way they were spoken to.

Four-time premiership-winning centre Renouf called the players ‘knobs’ in a scathing outburst on Twitter.

‘Precious soft privileged knobs! Toughen up boys!’ tweeted Renouf, who played 183 games for the Brisbane side.

Social media seemed to agree with Renouf – who was nicknamed ‘The Pearl’ in his playing days – with many fans echoing his frustrations with the team.

‘It’s this generation Pearl.. they cannot cop a spray.. it’s why they are so impacted by social media,’ said one user

‘Couldn’t of said it better myself Pearl,’ stated another.

‘Who would have thought that the coach would be upset when a team concedes 113 points in two matches,’ joked a third.

Renouf wasn’t the only club legend appalled by the team’s reaction to Walters’ spay. Gordon Tallis reckons Walters ‘had a right’ to blast his under-performing team and said the players complaining wouldn’t have made it in his era.

‘If I got called soft, my response is I’m going to prove him wrong,’ Tallis said on Triple M.

‘What about Craig Bellamy in the coach’s box every minute? It’s a high-pressure situation where at the moment what do you want them to say? Sir Alex Ferguson kicked the boot at David Beckham in the head,’ Tallis said

Tallis also called on Walters to drop the players who objected to his dressing room spray for the game against the Dragons next week.

Bulldogs hardman James Graham agreed with Tallis.

‘You’ve got to face the music. You’ve got to face the truth and Kevvie is within his rights to give the team a spray,’ Graham said.

Brisbane have dropped to ninth on the ladder and need to pummel the Dragons – or hope Canberra lose to the hapless Wests Tigers – in the final round to qualify for the finals.

The Broncos got the wooden spoon in 2020 and finished 14th last season.
