The couple married in 2001, and they went on to welcome their eldest daughter Rowan, 20, in 2003, and she gave birth to her second child three years later.

The star of The Blue Lagoon then spoke about becoming more sure of herself as she grew older.

Shields remarked that she had become ‘much more comfortable in my ambition than I used to be. I think I used to feel embarrassed that I had an ambitious part.’

‘I used to think that that was somehow something that I shouldn’t be coveting…That was the way I sort of grew up,’ she added.

The actress also stated that she had since learned to embrace her drive and desire for success in her later years.

‘You sort of get to a certain age, you’re like, “You know what? I do want more and I want to try for it and I want to keep going.”‘

Shields also opened up about how she had learned to turn down requests to ‘spend time with people I don’t want to spend time with.’

‘It’s almost not personal. Whereas I used to feel compelled to say “yes” to everybody, just running myself ragged,’ she said.
