Claire Sweeney reunited with her Brookside parents Sue Jenkins and Dean Sullivan this weekend at the British Soap Awards.

The actress, 52, who played Lindsey Corkhill in the long-running Channel 4 soap, cosied up to her former on-screen mum and dad – Sue who played Jackie Corkhill, and Dean who played Jimmy Corkhill.

Posing for the family reunion, Claire, who played Lindsey on and off for 12 years, admitted it felt very ’emotional’.

Taking to her Instagram alongside the pair, she penned: ‘Now this felt emotional. So happy to see @deansul @susie.jenks #brookside #family.’

Coronation Street actress Claire, who announced she was joining the cast of the soap in April, posed with the train of her dress extending out across the floor beside her.

The garment featured shimmering gold decorative detail on the hip and neckline, with Claire carrying a sequinned clutch purse in the same colour to match.

She wore a pair of gold open-toed heels to add a few inches to her stature and accessorised with some pendulum earrings for the evening.

Claire wore lashings of make-up to highlight her features, opting for a bold red lip.

She has already started filming for Coronation Street and her first scenes are set to air on Wednesday June  28.

Cosying up in the middle, Dean looked dapper in a black suit and crisp white shirt.

He paired the look with an extravagant black and white neck tie and brown hat.

Sue also looked fabulous in the shot, in a white frilly blouse and chic brown trousers.

Fans were full of compliments for the Corkhill family as they reunited some 20 years after the soap finished.

Liverpool-born Claire was first known for her portrayal of Lindsey Corkill in the scouse soap Brookside for which she won Best Dramatic Scene at the British Soap Awards

The soap, set in Liverpool, chronicled the lives of characters living in 13 houses on a cul-de-sac called Brookside Close.

Their family reunion comes after fellow Brookside star Louis Emerick and Claire claimed the long-running Channel 4 soap predicted the future with its storylines.

During an appearance on Lorraine in February this year, Claire discussed a plot in which her character Lindsey Corkhill was arrested in Thailand after her ex-husband Gary Jackson (played by Allan Patterson) planted drugs in her suitcase.

She said: ‘The Thailand storyline… he would write it, and five weeks later the same thing would happen in the press! It’s so scary.’

Louis (who portrayed Mick Johnson) added: ‘When you think about it now, we’ve got the strikes going on now. When you think about, as well, the sort of plague… we hated that storyline.

Claire chimed in: ‘We thought it was mental, didn’t we?’ before Louis said: ‘It was the Covid of 25 years ago’.

Claire concluded of creator Phil Redmond: ‘Phil had this brilliant instinct. There’d be a story in the script, and a week later it’d be in the news.’

Earlier this year, it was announced that Brookside was making its return to screens across the UK after 20 years off air.
