Brotton farmhouse with 18 acres could be won for just £50

Home buyers looking to get on the property ladder could just hit the jackpot after one owner has come up with a genius idea to get rid of his house.

John Bennett has lived at the Barns Farm property in Brotton, Saltburn by the Sea, North Yorkshire, for the past 25 years although he has been unable to sell the £1.3million house after moving to Majorca with his wife Antoinette.

He is now aiming to sell 28,000 raffle tickets at £50 a go, with the winner becoming the new house owner.

The 63-year-old businessman said: ‘It’s nothing for the prize you can win.

‘I’ve had a lot of interest in the property, but it is expensive.

‘People from as far as Edinburgh and the Thames Valley have been looking at it for various uses, including a kennels and a glamping site.

‘But nobody seemed to be able to get the money together.’

Talking about the property, he said that one of the best features include the coastal and country views.

Mr Bennett said: ‘The best thing about the house is the views – from the window you’ve got both country and sea views – and lots of peace and quiet.

‘The most exciting thing is, this could change someone’s life for just £50.’

Those hoping to win the property will first have to answer the question: which town on the North East coast has the last remaining pier in Yorkshire?

‘There has to be an element of skill involved, so there’s a question to answer,’ John said.

The lucky winner won’t just be getting the three bedroom property, but will also bag themselves 18.6-acres and equestrian facilities comprising of a block with eight stables, a barn and a workshop.

The winner will be decided by a random number generator, with second and third place bagging themselves 65 inch and 55 inch TVs.
