A tiny island off Australia’s east coast is fast becoming a tourist hot spot after being compared to dream destinations across the Mediterranean.
Broughton Island, which is located just three hours north of Sydney, has recently captured the attention of Aussies looking for ‘the taste of Greece closer to home’.
The hidden gem has been dubbed ‘Australia’s Mykonos’ and labelled a ‘must-see’ destination by travellers who have been lucky enough to experienced its beauty.
The island is surrounded by crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches – but there’s a catch. It isn’t easy to get to.
Visitors will need their own boat or to book a trip with a cruise operator to get to the island from Port Stephens or Nelson Bay just two hours and 45 minutes north of Sydney.
The island also has very limited phone reception so is perfect for travellers seeking a quiet escape or opportunity to disconnect from reality.

Campers better be quick if they want to make their visit more than a day trip as their are only five camping sites on the island which book up quickly.
Campsites are very basic and guests will need to bring all their own supplies including water.

Swimmers will share the ocean with seals, whales and pods of dolphins while the skies are rife with sea birds.
