Brownlow Medal 2018 WAGS battle it out on the red carpet

As one of the most coveted sporting events of the year, there’s more to the Brownlow Medal Count than recognising the code’s prestigious best and fairest.

While the AFL stars battle it out inside, it’s the wives and girlfriends who go head to head on the red carpet in a bid to claim the sartorial crown.

And the glamorous WAGS have certainly delivered, with the women putting on an eye-catching show at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on Monday night.

With Rebecca Judd, Jessie Murphy and Nadia Bartel leading the way, several WAGS made a stunning entrance in their jaw-dropping numbers – but some, including Jesinta Campbell, seemed to miss the sartorial mark.

Here, FEMAIL has rounded up the best and worst moments from the red carpet at football’s night of nights.

One of the standout winners on the night was Rebecca Judd who ensured all eyes were on her as she wowed the crowd in an elegant fairytale number with embroidered details.

Staying true to her fashion-forward roots, the wife of AFL legend Chris Judd simply stunned in a lilac strapless gown by her long-time favourite label J’Aton Couture.

The stylish mother-of-four finished her look by accessorising with delicate jewels. She styled her luscious brunette locks in an elegant do, complete with a statement hair clip.

Jessie Murphy nee Habermann, wife of Marc Murphy, was nothing short of glamorous as she accentuated her svelte figure in a sheer pink frock by Oglia Loro Couture.

The young mother-of-one showcased her post-pregnancy frame in the strapless number with a racy thigh split to break up the dramatic layering of tulle.

Jesinta Campbell failed to compliment her enviable figure after she opted for an awkwardly fitting slip gown

Leading the WAGS arrivals, Stylist Nadia Bartel displayed her blossoming baby bump in a white backless gown by J’Aton Couture.

The heavily pregnant wife of AFL star Jimmy Bartel dazzled in the form-fitting gown that featured strategic cut-outs at the back and flared slightly from the knees down.

Alice Gough, the girlfriend of Adelaide football club’s Paul Seedsman, made a stunning statement as she dazzled in a deep pink off-the-shoulder gown that featured a layered train.

Brit Davis, the fiancée of Geelong Cats’ Joel Selwood, stunned in an embellished frock with lace by Paolo Sebastian, which featured high neckline and dramatic train.

Another WAG turning heads for all the right reasons was Charlotte Ennels, the model fiancée of Jack Viney, who certainly stole the limelight in a sheer nude dress from OGLIA-LORO Couture.

Nutritionist Alex Pendlebury, the wife of the Magpies’ Scott Pendlebury, 30, flaunted her enviable figure in a one-shoulder emerald green silk frock that also featured a generous thigh split.

Meanwhile, the dress didn’t do justice for Jesinta Campbell who rarely puts a foot wrong when it comes to style.

But on Monday evening, the blonde model failed to compliment her enviable figure after she opted for an awkwardly fitting slip gown.

The wife of Sydney Swans star Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin took a fashion risk by wearing a very daring ivory silk number, as she arrived on the red carpet.

Another WAG to hit the mark was Emma Giles, the fiancée of St Kilda’s Jarryn Geary, who made a bold statement in a white plunging frock with a bizarre pleating of fabric from the knee down.

Alexandra Bourne wore an unflattering emerald moss green form-fitting frock with a very racy thigh-high split as she attended the evening with her Essendon boyfriend Zach Merrett.

The design also featured a plunging neckline which accentuated the brunette’s ample bust.
