Bruce Highway crash: Multiple people fighting for life after major collision

Two poeple have died and a third is fighting for life after a horrific crash on the Bruce Highway south of Cairns.

Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the Bruce Highway at Fitzgerald Creek just after 11:30am on Friday.

‘Upon arrival, two people were declared deceased. Another person was airlifted to Cairns Hospital,’ a spokesperson for Queensland Police said. 

Paramedics are currently evaluating multiple patients with life-threatening injuries, but the exact number of those injured is still unknown. 

The Bruce Highway through Fitzgerald Creek is closed in both directions and investigations are continuing.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area or expect lengthy delays.
