Bruce Lehrmann defamation trial: David Sharaz’s foul-mouthed texts about his ex-wife are laid bare in bombshell court documents: ‘She’s doing all this’

Private details of David Sharaz’s failed marriage have been laid bare for the first time in a series of texts released by the Federal Court.

The texts between Mr Sharaz and his new fiancée Brittany Higgins were sent on February 8, 2021, and appear on a document called ‘master chronology’, supplied to the court by former Channel Seven employee Taylor Auerbach.

In a lengthy affidavit, Mr Auerbach claimed Mr Lehrmann sent him the dossier with various messages between Ms Higgins and others, including Mr Sharaz and her ex-boyfriend Ben Dillaway.

Mr Sharaz’s dealings with his ex-wife, Alexandra Craig, could not be published earlier due to laws in the ACT preventing journalists from reporting family violence matters.

But they can now be revealed because they were tendered into evidence at the Federal Court by Network Ten.

In the texts, Mr Sharaz says: ‘Alex is f***ing smart. She’s doing all this to get me into a room for mediation. I have to be officially served an interim order now.’

‘Then I come to court in a month and I have to give evidence to a registrar. She’s doing it all just to f*** with me and make my life difficult.

‘The cop basically hinted at me this is bogus.I asked him a whole bunch of hypotheticals. He goes “put it this way David…you don’t seem threatening to me’.

Ms Higgins replied: ‘That’s so random. Jesus. She’s a psychopath.’

Mr Sharaz said: ‘I’m just pissed off. I’m not even scared about the potential AVO etc. I’m just angry now.’

Ms Higgins said: ‘That’s fair. It’s good that the police etc totally see through it though! Even they can recognise that it’s bogus.’

‘Is this literally all about the Elizabeth Lee meeting?’

Is it unclear from the texts which Elizabeth Lee Ms Higgins referred to, but there is a Liberal politician by the same name who is the member for Kurrajong in the ACT.

Mr Sharaz continued: ‘And my emailing her lawyer to try and sort the property settlement. I emailed once if we can sort this I don’t want anything etc and I CC’d Alex.

‘Good news this is likely to be resolved for a month so I don’t have to worry about it.

‘I’ll just knock together my version of events.’

Ms Higgins replied: ‘She’s so terrible. I’m sorry you have to go through this. You deserve so much more than that x.’

Mr Auerbach accused Mr Lehrmann of leaking Ms Higgins’ personal messages to Channel Seven prior to filming his two exclusive interviews on the Spotlight program last year.

Mr Lehrmann denies he is the source of the leak.

The texts were originally obtained by Australian Federal Police during an investigation into Ms Higgins’ rape allegations and were protected under the Harmon undertaking, which means the material could not be used outside the courtroom.

Network Ten’s barrister Matthew Collins KC expressed concern in the Federal Court on Tuesday that Ms Higgins’ privacy had been breached by the leak.

‘No doubt in the hope that they would be broadcast and disseminated to her embarrassment,’ Dr Collins said.

However, when the network tendered Mr Auerbach’s evidence in court on Tuesday, lawyers would have known that Ms Higgins’ texts would then enter the public record for the world to see.
