An elderly man was stopped on the street and then mercilessly beaten after refusing hand over money to two muggers in the Bronx, New York.
The duo targeted the man as easy prey and then set about punching him to a pulp after failing to comply with their demands.
The vicious attack occurred in the Castle Hill area of the borough early on Friday morning and was caught on CCTV obtained by NBC 4 New York.

The victim was punched and kicked over the course of several minutes, disturbing surveillance video shows
Just before the assault took place, the two suspects got out of a white sedan and walked up to the man.
After speaking to him for a moment, one of the attackers could be seen on camera shaking the hands with the man before he turning and punching him in the face.
The force was so great the man fell to the ground immediately where the cowardly attack continued.
The attacker punched and kicked the man as he remained helpless on the floor.
The man lay on the ground and pleaded with his attackers for them to stop
It’s not believed any money was taken from the man despite the vicious nature of the attack
While on the floor, the man put up his hands pleading with the men to leave him alone.
He then crawled out into the street in a desperate attempt to get away from the pair,, but the attackers followed him and continued to repeatedly kick him in the face.
The assault only came to an end when a couple of bystanders walk by.
The victim can then be seen on camera hobbling away in a complete daze.
He was later taken to Montefiore Medical Center with a fractured jaw, police said.
