Bryce Young set to visit Raiders Thursday despite being projected to be taken before Las Vegas’ pick

Bryce Young set to visit Raiders Thursday despite being projected to be taken before Las Vegas’ pick, as Alabama quarterback continues preparations for NFL Draft

While Bryce Young is widely expected to be unavailable by the second pick in this month’s NFL Draft, he’s at least willing to talk to teams picking afterwards.

The Raiders won’t be up until pick No. 7 on April 27, and just signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year, $72.75million deal.

Still, that’s not stopping them from hosting can’t-miss prospect Young, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported a visit will happen on Thursday.

Young will most likely end up in either Carolina or Houston, with the Panthers and Texans holding the first two picks of the draft respectively.

Young has also visited both of those teams, while his main competition in terms of being the top pick is Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud.

The former Alabama passer is extremely small for a quarterback, as he measured in at 5-foot-10 and 204 pounds at the NFL combine in February.

Nonetheless, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner is set to be a high pick later this month and has drawn rave reviews from scouts and ex-pros alike.

Following Young’s pro day in March, NFL Network analyst and legendary Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. said: ‘He processes at another level… he’s not a guy you wanna pass up.’

While Young meeting with the Raiders is not a hugely unusual move, not all of his peers have been as generous with their time.

Top-10 projected pick and Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter will not be visiting teams drafting outside of the top 10, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.

Carter has already visited the Eagles, who have the ninth pick, and the Bears (10th pick).

Meanwhile, the Raiders’ apparent interest in Young is worth keeping an eye on in terms of Garoppolo.

While the ex-Patriot and 49er will begin the season under center in Vegas barring an injury, the Raiders were named by ProFootballTalk as a potential trade destination for Mac Jones, who Bill Belichick is reportedly shopping.
