Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett is starting a foundation in the name of his two-year-old daughter after her tragic death by drowning earlier this year.

Barrett says the foundation – named after his daughter Arrayah – will aim to educate parents on water safety.

At a press conference Monday, Barrett says the organization hopes to help families avoid tragic accidents like Arrayah’s, when she drowned in a pool on April 30.

‘We’re gonna just help out as much as possible, like swim lessons for other families, install AI cameras for other families,’ Barrett said to reporters.

Barrett says that in the aftermath of the accident, he’s taken further precautions to ensure the safety of his family.

‘We had gates up, but we just left it open that night, but we got more gates up,’ Barrett said.

‘We got all precautions in the way to prevent it from happening and that’s why Arrayah Hope Inc. is gonna be beneficial for a lot of families.’

Barrett, who has won Super Bowls with the Broncos and Buccaneers, says the loss of Arrayah is still tough to process – but adds that training camp is helping him.

‘It don’t get any easier,’ Barrett said. ‘It’s just me being busy keeps my mind off it a little bit … it’s just tough. It’s just always gonna be tough.’

‘This would’ve been her first [camp] that she would’ve been able to come to and actually remember.’

Before training camp began, Barrett and his wife, Jordanna, both got tattoos of Arrayah. The couple are expecting a baby girl in February of next year.
