The founder of Pippa Middleton’s favourite buggy brand has revealed he ‘crossed his fingers’ when he heard rumours the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might have one of his designs.

Max Barenbrug is the Dutch inventor of Bugaboo, the must-have pram of royalty, celebrities and Yummy Mummies.

High profile fans include Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Sir Elton John, as well as Pippa, 35, and her husband James Matthews, 43, who have been seen pushing their eight-month-old son Arthur in a £1,100 model.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mr Barenburg admitted he was ‘really happy’ when he heard Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, might have followed suit for son Archie.

‘I’ve been crossing my fingers hard and when I heard they might have one, I was really happy,’ he said.

Reports emerged last month suggesting the Sussexes were given the popular Bugaboo Fox – the same model used by Pippa and James – by a friend ahead of their son’s arrival. The design costs roughly £1,200 once add-ons are included.

Suggestion that the anonymous friend had ‘used it herself’ led many royal watchers to speculate the mystery gifter was Amal Clooney, who opted for a Bugaboo for her own twins, Ella and Alexander, now two.

The Duchess of Sussex would also be in good company on royal days out, for her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, 37, is rumoured to have purchased a Bugaboo ahead of the birth of Prince George in 2013.

While celebrity fans of the brand are now commonplace, Mr Barenburg revealed he still remembers his first high profile endorsement.

‘Madonna was the first to have one – I went completely crazy,’ he continued.

The idea behind the company was to ‘make a stroller a hip investment, rather than an ugly necessity’, he said.

It was reported the Duchess of Cambridge had bought a Bugaboo pushchair ahead of the birth of Prince George in 2013. However the mother-of-three has only been seen with the £1,600 Silver Cross baby carriage she had at Princess Charlotte’s Christening in July 2015, pictured

The result are designs that look as much at home on city streets as they do on country trails. And they are environmentally friendly, too.

The Bugaboo Fox Classic model comes complete with high-spec additions like hand-stitched handlebars and eco-friendly fabrics – perfect for parents used to the finer things in life.

It also boasts features designed to make the precious cargo as comfortable as possible, including a quilted micro twill lining and advanced all-wheel suspension system that sounds befitting of a high super car.
