Bukayo Saka insists ‘I’m not scared of anyone’ ahead of England’s Euro 2020 clash against Germany

Bukayo Saka insists ‘I’m not scared of anyone’ ahead of England’s Euro 2020 clash against Germany with starlet looking to build on impressive performance against Czech Republic

Bukayo Saka has declared that he’s ‘not scared of anyone’ ahead of England’s last-16 tie against Germany.

After catching the eye in the final group game against Czech Republic, a performance for which he won UEFA’s  ‘Star of the match’ award, Saka will hope to retain his place in the starting lineup for the eagerly-anticipated last-16 clash at Wembley on Tuesday.

Despite the enormity of the fixture and the quality that Germany possess, Saka insists that at present he isn’t fazed by the prospect of facing Joachim Low’s side.

The 19-year-old added that if he is involved then it will be the biggest game of his career so far.

Saka told BBC Sport: ‘If I do play against Germany it will be the biggest game of my career. I don’t know how I’ll feel on the day but right now I’m not scared of anyone.’

Having not been involved against Croatia or Scotland (he was left out of the squad for the latter fixture) Saka was called upon against Czech Republic and produced a hugely impressive display which included him playing a significant part in Raheem Sterling’s goal.

Although he only has six England caps, Saka’s fearlessness and adaptability make him a very useful option for Gareth Southgate.

Despite his undoubted talent, it isn’t guaranteed that Saka will retain his place in the starting lineup against Germany, with Phil Foden in contention to return, while Jack Grealish will also be looking to return to the side.

If he is involved, Saka will look to replicate many of the performances he produced for Arsenal last season, when he was often the Gunners’ star player even in difficult circumstances.

Given his age and ability there could well be many further international tournaments that Saka will be involved in, but he is determined to play a key part this summer.
