Authorities said that the leak was the result of a Bunsen burner valve accidentally being left open on a teacher’s desk.

A Bunsen burner is common piece of laboratory equipment that produces a single open gas flame that is used as a source of heat during science experiments.

Inspectors are evaluating the school as a precaution to verify that there are no other open sources of natural gas, according to NBC 5.

Cedar Hill Collegiate High School opened in 2008 and teaches 406 students in grades nine through 12.

The campus is also home to Cedar Hill Collegiate Academy which educates 207 students enrolled in grades six and seven, NBC 5 reported.
