Bupa launches £17-a-month subscription service as satisfaction with GPs hits all-time low

Bupa is launching a ‘Netflix-style’ private GP subscription service from £17 a month as satisfaction with family doctors plummets to an all-time low.

The private medical insurer devised the scheme after a survey found 32 per cent of people would value paid-for access to a GP or dentist more than a television subscription service.

The service, at £16.99 a month or £200 a year, would give customers the chance of phone or video appointments with a doctor.

For £21.66 or £260 a year, customers will also be entitled to in-person appointments at any of Bupa’s 54 clinics. Both services include free prescription delivery to either a home or nearby pharmacy.

Public satisfaction with GP services earlier this year was at just 34 per cent, according to a study into British social attitudes.

Polling conducted by Censuswide, for Bupa, also revealed one-third of adults found it difficult to book a GP appointment, with 31 per cent waiting more than a week to see a doctor.

Dr Elizabeth Rogers, from Bupa Health Clinics, said: ‘Our Netflix-style GP subscription gives customers easy access to same-day appointments with doctors and 24/7 access to our Anytime Healthline.’
