Two burglars who raided an 83-year-old woman’s home were caught in clear CCTV images despite stealing the cameras.

The pair of thieves targeted a woman in the Sheldon area of Birmingham yesterday, telling her they worked for the ‘gas board’ and forcing open a safe.

They spotted two CCTV cameras installed inside the home and grabbed them, but police managed to download the images recorded from a central database.

Two burglars who posed as members of the gas board were caught on CCTV cameras

Sergeant Tom Lyons, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘Two men forced their way into an elderly woman’s home, and that is quite simply unacceptable.

‘I’m concerned these individuals will seek out and target other vulnerable members of the community so identifying them is a priority.

‘We really need people to come forward if they recognise the men, so we can put a stop to what they’re doing.’

The incident happened in Ragley Drive, Sheldon at 11am yesterday.

Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police, quoting crime number: 20BE/28635Q/18, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
