Burnley are eyeing a move for West Brom defender Dara O’Shea to replace his Republic of Ireland team-mate Nathan Collins.

Collins secured a return to the Premier League with Wolves earlier this week in a £21m deal following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

Burnley are in need of defensive reinforcements after seeing Collins, Ben Mee and James Tarkowski all leave Turf Moor this summer.

The Clarets have signed Taylor Harwood-Bellis on loan from Manchester City and Luke McNally from Oxford, but Clarets boss Vincent Kompany knows they need to bring in some experience and O’Shea fits the bill.

O’Shea made 28 appearances for West Brom when they were last in the Premier League and he is a regular in the Republic of Ireland set-up.

The 23-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Hawthorns and Baggies boss Steve Bruce would be loath to lose the centre-back to one of their Championship rivals.

Burnley have money to spend following the big-money sale of Collins and they could test West Brom’s resolve to keep hold of O’Shea.
