A mother who says her 19st frame left her too ’embarrassed’ to enjoy date nights with her husband has shed an impressive 7st after ditching her daily junk food habit – and celebrated by stripping to her lingerie to pose for a sexy photo shoot.
Crisp addict Becci Berry, from Bury, Greater Manchester, piled on three stone in just eight months by bingeing on more than 120 packets a month following the birth of her daughter Aimee, in 2013.
The 32-year-old admits she ‘ate everything in sight’, eventually ballooning to a size 24 as a result of her diet of daily takeaways and multiple chocolate bars, which left her struggling to enjoy nights out with her husband Richard, 40.
The turning point came when Becci found herself unable to get her old trousers over her knees while getting ready for her first day back at work as an occupational therapist’s assistant. There and then she resolved to overhaul her lifestyle, and four years – and 7st – later the newly confident mum was happy to pose for a burlesque shoot she says left her feeling like ‘a million dollars’.

The newly confident mother of one celebrated her achievement by posing for a burlesque shoot she says left her feeling like ‘a million dollars’
Previously Becci skipped breakfast, but tucked into calorie laden takeaways and multiple packets of crisps and chocolate bars later in the day, totting up to around 3,000 calories a day.
After overhauling her diet, she shaved her intake to 1,500 by swapping junk food for fruit and nuts, and filling up on healthy meals like porridge with blueberries and vegetable-packed stir fries.
Now 12st 1lb and a dress size 12, Becci planned the shoot as a surprise gift for Richard, a bus driver.
‘It helped me be more affectionate with my husband and bring the romance back,’ she said.
‘It was nice for him. He had never seen me like that before as when you’re large you don’t really show yourself off. It was a huge shock for him. He was speechless.
‘It was amazing. I felt comfortable in my own skin for once and for the first time in a long time I actually felt good about how I looked.
‘I walked in feeling really nervous but I walked out feeling a million dollars. I felt fantastic and was a huge confidence boost.’
Confidence boost: Becci says she didn’t feel good about herself when she was heavier
She planned the photo shoot as a surprise for her husband Richard, 40, a bus driver
Becci got the photographs taken on October 8th to help her feel more confident and comfortable in her own skin and says it has even brought back the romance in her marriage.
Becci said: ‘When I looked at the pictures I thought, ‘you know what, I actually do look really good.’ I would recommend it to anybody. It makes you feel so much better about yourself.
‘My husband was very happy with the outcome. He loved all of the pictures. We had to choose from 35 different ones and he found it really difficult. He really loved them.
‘He came into the room when we did the pictures. He told me that I am beautiful anyway but I looked stunning in the pictures. He was very shocked.
‘We are getting the pictures framed to put on the wall. Why shouldn’t anybody else see them? I am going to put them into a book as a Christmas present for him.
Before losing weight, Becci indulged in takeaways, chocolate and crisps every day
Now she snacks on fruit and nuts, and satisfies her crisp cravings with low calorie versions
‘Any woman who looks in the mirror and doesn’t see what they want to see, go and get this done. It makes you see yourself in a different light.’
The mum now feels confident enough to go out with her husband Richard for meals and drinks without feeling uncomfortable.
Becci said: ‘I go out with my husband now and I don’t feel embarrassed for him anymore. He was never bothered, it was me who was.

‘I felt disgusting. I didn’t like what I saw and I thought, why would he want to go out with someone so big and disgusting?
‘I would say this to him but he would just tell me to stop being daft. He has been brilliant. He loves me for me and not for my appearance.
‘When I decided to do something about it he was supportive of that. He just wanted me to be happy.
‘I would never get dressed in front of him and would keep everything covered. I’m a lot more confident now.
‘Now I’m able to wear more dresses when we go out. Before I would just wear baggy clothes when I was big.’
After being unable to fit into her regular work clothes she had to resort to wearing maternity trousers on her first day back.
Becci said: ‘I ate everything in sight. I did it to make myself feel better and I ended up gaining a ridiculous amount of weight.
‘I didn’t go out. If I went to the park with my children I would sit and watch them. I never got involved because I was too overweight. I felt embarrassed for them.
‘I wouldn’t go out drinking with my friends and I was very reluctant to go out with my husband. I felt embarrassed for him I felt disgusted in myself.
‘When you feel crap, you eat crap and then you spiral out of control. It is a vicious cycle.
Becci’s turning point came when she realised she couldn’t fit into her old work clothes
‘When I couldn’t fit into my work trousers that’s when I thought, enough is enough. I couldn’t even get them past my knees. It broke me.
‘I thought, I’ve got to do something now, this is disgusting. That’s when I found the nearest Weight Watchers meeting and took it from there.’
The mum joined a local Weight Watchers group in August 2013 weighing 19st 10lbs and as a dress size 22 to 24, but after her lifestyle changes she now weighs just 12st 1lb and wears a size 12.
Once upon a time she tucked into four packets of crisps every day – sometimes more
These days mum of one Becci is more likely to be found training in the gym than snacking
Becci said: ‘It has totally changed my life. I go to the gym four to five times a week. You wouldn’t have seen me in a gym before at all. I do a lot of things I would have never done before.
‘I go to the park now with the kids and I’m not embarrassed to get involved.. I have a lot more confidence and I’m definitely more active.
‘I wanted to get my daughter christened and I wanted to look better for it. I didn’t want to be this big fat person there and unhappy.
‘My first goal was to get into a size 16 for the christening. It was just taking it step by step and I took it day by day but I did it.
‘I have had a lot of people noticing and giving me compliments about my weight loss.
‘I’m proud of myself to show other people that it can be done and getting to where you want to be isn’t out of reach like a lot of women think. You can do it you just need support.’
