BVB boss stunned by Harry Kane’s goal, no love for Lloris, Ajax fans rip down net: Things you missed

What a night it was for the away sides in the Champions League on Tuesday as Tottenham ground out a 1-0 win at Dortmund while Ajax recorded an astonishing 4-1 victory to knock out Real Madrid.

Harry Kane scored Tottenham’s winner on the night as they cruised through on aggregate. Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schoene all got on the scoresheet in Madrid where Marco Asensio’s consolation strike did little to appease the angry locals.

With so much going on in Germany and Spain it was almost impossible to catch every detail. But fear not because Sportsmail have rounded up some things you may have missed.

Favre’s face

Kane scored the game’s opening goal against the run of play… and boy was Dortmund boss Lucien Favre taken by surprise.

Favre’s face after Kane slotted Spurs 1-0 up was a picture of genuine astonishment.

BT Sport cut to the Dortmund head coach as he stared into the distance with his mouth wide open.

Dele spotted… on fan’s leg

Dele Alli is back in training after a hamstring injury but Tuesday’s game came too soon for him to play.

He was spotted in Dortmund though… inked onto the right calf of a Spurs supporter.

The tattoo was snapped by photographer Tom Jacobs on his way to the match.

Landmarks for Spurs duo

Kane’s winner saw him move clear of Jermain Defoe to become Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer in European competition with 24 goals.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris registered his 100th clean sheet for the club.

Awful from Aurier

Little over a year ago, Serge Aurier made Premier League history by producing three foul throws in one match.

His game of shame was against Crystal Palace and he rightly received widespread criticism. But it seems he hasn’t fully learned his lesson because he ballsed up another throw-in on Tuesday. That’s right, a foul-throw in the Champions League last 16. Awful.

And that may not have been the only simple football law the right back broke. One Twitter user claimed Aurier played without shin pads.

No love for Lloris

Lloris was left hanging as he attempted to hug Dortmund captain Marco Reus.

The awkward exchange occurred in the centre circle as the two skippers were spoken to by the officials minutes before kick-off.

Reus was happy to shake hands but fled the scene as Lloris leaned in for a cuddle.

Yellow Wall goes green

Dortmund’s famous Yellow Wall at their Westfalenstadion home created a mural in an attempt to inspire the home team.

Holding up pieces of coloured paper before kick-off, the Yellow Wall became a green background with an image of two Dortmund players lifting the European Cup.

The image celebrated Dortmund’s 1997 triumph in the Champions League and it aimed to show the current crop what was possible. Oh well.

Home discomfort

Real Madrid have now lost four games in a row at home.

The last time that happened was at the end of the 2003-04 season when Osasuna, Barcelona, Mallorca and Real Sociedad all won at the Bernabeu.

Real’s four losses this time around have come at the hands of Girona, Barcelona (twice) and now Ajax.

Ajax fans occupy Puerta del Sol

Ajax won the battle of the Bernabeu on the pitch… and their fans also outsung their Real Madrid counterparts before the game.

Puerta del Sol square in the centre of Madrid was full of Ajax supporters in the hours leading up to the game, while red and white flags were draped all around the city.

Capture the flag

An Ajax fan showed impressive accuracy during Tuesday’s pre-match festivities.

Having spotted a Real Madrid banner on a third-floor balcony, he booted a ball towards it.

The fierce left-footed strike managed to dislodge the banner, much to the delight of the rowdy Dutchmen below.

Net-busters

Once they got to the Bernabeu, Ajax fans continued to behave boisterously.

According to journalist Rik Sharma, they ripped down some safety netting.

The green netting is designed to prevent missiles being thrown from the stands.
